NORTH OLYMPIC KIDS FISHING DAY 2009 Kids Fishing Day was a GREAT SUCCESS with over 500 kids getting the opportunity to catch a couple of rainbow trout, eat a few hot dogs, and have a fantastic time. The pond remains open through the summer for kids 14 years of age and younger with a two fish/day limit. Funds generated at the annual auction are used to feed the 2000 trout that are raised for release in the pond each year. Rods, reels, hooks, and bait are provided by the Chapter!!!!This is what the great tradition of fishing is all about folks!!!

A CHILD'S WAR In 1939 a little boy of four years old was taken to the train station in Manchester with a name tag on his jacket. In one weekend 148,000 children were put on trains and evacuated out of Manchester. The train stopped at Garstang or St. Michaels on Wyre where they disembarked to village halls. There volunteer host families came and "picked" over potential youngsters to take in, many farmers in the countryside, looking for help now that all their labour force had been called to war. Older children were chosen first of course and that little boy was one of the last to be "selected". There were ocasional family visits over the next eight years but his family had suffered badly during the war and when, in 1945, he finally did return to the city of his birth, his home was gone, bombed to a memory. Home then became a squatters camp: a now empty Prisoner of War camp outside of Warton. That little boy, was my father, Albert Knights and he was one of over A MILLION children evacuated during the second world war, in Operation Pied Piper.
